Communication Resource

Northfield Communication Resource is a bespoke, personalised and enhanced mainstream setting for 5-11 year olds who have an Education Health Care Plan (EHCP) with speech, language and communication needs.

The Communication Resource is purpose built and based within the main school building. It has excellent state-of-the-art facilities including a sensory room with a wide range of equipment to meet the varying sensory preferences of learners. The Communication Resource delivers a broad and balanced, adapted curriculum which follows the key elements of mainstream school, with a strong emphasis on social communication. Each individual learners’ needs are tailored to, in order to provide the appropriate level of challenge. Where possible, learners access mainstream quality-first teaching whilst supported by specialist staff who aim to develop increasing levels of independence over time. Learners are encouraged to take part in all aspects of the wider school personal development offer including the 50 Experiences and wider school leadership roles.

We provide a structured, calm and consistent environment through visual supports, sensory considerations and clear communication. Support strategies have an emphasis on social skills and communication skill development.
